Chris Bernhard of Hidden Lake Ranch in Stillwater, New York, has announced that Mixto, a top prize-winning hunter and Grade 1 winner sired by Good Magic, will join the ranch’s stallion lineup in 2026. This acquisition was facilitated by The Stallion Company.

Mixto boasts impressive achievements, including winning the $1 million Grade 1 Pacific Classic and finishing as a strong runner-up in the Dubai World Cup, just behind Forever Young, the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Classic champion.

Trainer Bernhard highlighted Good Magic’s successful start as a sire, with notable Grade 1 winners like Moose, Mage, and Dornoch. He emphasized that having a Grade 1 winner and a top-earner like Mixto in New York reflects the state’s robust racing program. With leading stallions such as Candy Ride, Gun Runner, and now Good Magic’s top progeny for the 2026 season, Bernhard believes the future holds great promise for purse equality at Belmont Park and in New York racing overall.

Eddie Cain from Calumet Farm praised Mixto’s exceptional performance, particularly at the 2025 Dubai World Cup, noting his fierce competitiveness and impressive stretch finish against top-level competition. Cain expressed excitement about supporting Mixto’s breeding career in New York starting in 2026.

Mixto’s dam, Rigoletta, a Grade 1 winner, contributed to his exceptional pedigree; she also produced Billionaire, a Grade 1 winner, and is related to Evening Concerto. The maternal line is distinguished, with 20 stakes winners, including 10 who have secured Grade 1 or Grade 2 victories, such as champion sprint filly Musical Romance and various Breeders’ Cup-winning mares.

Mixto will be available for breeding at Hidden Lake Ranch under a $10,000 live foal stand and nurse syndicate.

Fan Take: This announcement is exciting for horse racing enthusiasts as it strengthens the quality and competitiveness of New York’s breeding program, signaling a bright future for local racing talent. Adding a proven Grade 1 winner like Mixto to the stallion roster could elevate the sport’s profile and bring more top-tier racing excitement to the region.
