The Calgary Flames extended their impressive home streak on Monday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome with a 7-4 victory over the Buffalo Sabers, marking their fifth win and one overtime loss in six recent home games. Both teams came into the match tied at 26 points, fully aware of the game’s significance, and Calgary responded with their most aggressive performance of the season.

Egor Sharangovich opened the scoring for the second consecutive game, added an empty-net goal, and contributed an assist. Rasmus Andersson scored his seventh goal this season, and Jonathan Huberdeau netted his second power-play goal. Nazem Kadri led the Flames with a stellar 3-point outing (1 goal, 2 assists), while Yan Kuznetsov scored his second goal this season, and Mikael Backlund capped off the scoring with an empty-net goal. Dustin Wolf managed to secure his ninth win despite a hectic night in goal.

Calgary quickly took control, with Sharangovich’s persistent shot deflecting into the net. The Flames maintained pressure early on, with Andersson scoring during a 5-on-3 power play and Kadri netting two goals in the first period. Buffalo fought back in the second period as Tage Thompson scored on the power play, but Calgary matched that with a power-play goal set up by Huberdeau for Matt Coronato. Buffalo narrowly missed tying the game due to an offside call, but later Owen Power scored, narrowing the gap.

Yet, every time Buffalo pressed, Calgary responded quickly. Sharangovich set up Kadri for a goal just 31 seconds after Buffalo scored, restoring a two-goal lead. Buffalo’s Rasmus Dahlin scored again, but Calgary retook control with Kuznetsov’s goal late in the second. In the third, with Buffalo’s net empty, Dahlin assisted Alex Tuch, who scored, but Backlund and Sharangovich sealed the win with empty-net goals.

Fans noted three key points from the game: Calgary’s confident and aggressive playstyle, the Flames’ effective power play featuring quick puck movement and decisive shots, and Kadri’s role as the offensive leader delivering consistent performance and pace.

Fan Take: This thrilling victory not only highlights Calgary’s rising dominance but also energizes fans with a promise of exciting, dynamic hockey. Kadri’s leadership and the team’s power play effectiveness are significant indicators of their potential to become serious contenders this season, making every Flames game must-watch hockey.
