Jake Paul mocks ‘dummy’ following major announcement on Anthony Joshua fight card

Fans can finally relax after Jake Paul’s recent announcement.

Just a week following his boxing comeback, Paul hinted at a “major update,” which initially caused concern among fans. The YouTuber-turned-boxer was originally set to face Gervonta Davis in a Netflix bout this November, but that fight fell through due to new domestic violence allegations against the WBA lightweight champ. Instead, Paul will now face heavyweight knockout specialist Anthony Joshua in a professional match on December 19th in Miami.

This news was welcomed by many critics of Paul, who have long hoped to see him challenged by a powerful opponent capable of halting his rise in boxing. But on Tuesday, a significant announcement raised worries about the event’s potential cancellation.

Fortunately, the fight with Joshua is still on. Paul’s update revealed he has signed Caroline Dubois, the undefeated WBC women’s lightweight champion, to his Most Valuable Promotion (MVP). Since winning the title in 2023, Dubois has held it four times and is the 2018 Youth Olympic gold medalist. She is set to make her return on the undercard against Camila Panatta in the upcoming Netflix broadcast.

Addressing doubters on X (formerly Twitter), Paul said, “You idiots, you thought I was going to back out of the fight? That’s ridiculous. I’m just building. It’s going to take 5 years. I’m building the best roster. Welcome to MVP, Miss Dubois.”

Dubois quickly responded, expressing excitement about her new partnership with MVP and her future title defenses. Sharing the promotion with champions like Amanda Serrano and Alicia Baumgardner, Dubois declared, “It’s official. I signed with @mostvaluablepromotions… and I’m coming for you all. There’s a reason I’m at the top, and now with MVP behind me, the world is about to see a whole new level. I’m officially MOST VALUABLE.”

Her bout against Panatta will be the fourth title fight featured on the Paul vs. Joshua undercard, which also includes MMA veterans Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley.

Fan Take: This announcement reshapes the landscape for combat sports fans by stacking an exciting heavyweight showdown alongside promising title fights. It highlights Jake Paul’s ambition to build a powerhouse roster, potentially raising the profile and competitiveness of boxing in the years ahead.
