ESPN has unveiled its yearly ranking of the top mixed martial arts (MMA) prospects under 30 years old. For nearly ten years, ESPN has put together this list to spotlight young fighters rapidly climbing the sport’s ladder. As the year comes to an end, and after another strong showing from emerging athletes in the UFC and PFL, ESPN has published its 2025 edition. Traditionally showcasing the top 25 fighters under 25, this year’s list expanded to include the 30 best competitors under 30.

At the top of this year’s ranking is UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, who, at 28, has already secured two major UFC titles and sits second in the pound-for-pound rankings behind Islam Makhachev. PFL Women’s Flyweight titleholder Dakota Dicheva ranks second, a somewhat contentious choice as she places ahead of UFC standouts like Arman Tsarukyan (10th) and newly crowned UFC flyweight champion Joshua Bunn (3rd). Fans have voiced strong opinions about the placements of certain fighters like Tsarukyan, Erin Blanchfield, and Natalia Silva, with some defending the choices despite controversy.

As the year wraps up, the race for Fighter of the Year heats up, especially following the recent UFC 323 event. Ilia Topuria is widely seen as a leading candidate, even though he fought only once this year. Islam Makhachev is also receiving significant attention despite just two fights this year.

Fan Take: This list not only highlights the rising stars in MMA but also sparks debate among fans about fighter rankings, reflecting the sport’s evolving landscape. It emphasizes how talent and potential are valued alongside championship success, offering a glimpse of the future of MMA competition.
