Colonel Harry Sets Sights on Enchanting Comeback This Weekend

Jamie Snowden is eager to advance his long-term ambitions with Captain Harry, the eight-year-old horse aiming for another victory at the Support the Hunt Family Fund December Gold Cup in Cheltenham this weekend. After a challenging period marked by a severe fall at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day and a tough recovery that included a hospital stay due to a serious infection, Captain Harry made a triumphant return in November at the Grand Sefton race at Aintree, winning by two lengths despite less-than-ideal ground conditions.

Snowden, based in Lambourn, expressed satisfaction with the horse’s current condition and progress, noting Captain Harry’s preference for soft ground and highlighting the remarkable comeback from his infection. Looking ahead, Snowden indicated that while there are no fixed plans beyond the upcoming race, this event fits into a broader, long-term strategy.

Additionally, Snowden is hopeful about Ga Law’s chances in the 2.5-mile Premier Handicap. The horse, which placed third in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby in October, will be ridden by the promising 9-year-old jockey Isabel Ryder, aiming to improve on last year’s ninth-place finish. Snowden acknowledged Ga Law’s strong performance at Charlie Hall but noted the horse has been affected by handicapping, emphasizing Ryder’s talent and the potential advantage of her remaining 7lb claim. He also suggested that Ga Law might excel at longer distances as he matures into a veteran competitor.

Fan Take: This update is exciting for horse racing enthusiasts as it showcases inspiring stories of resilience and potential breakthrough performances at a prestigious event. Success for Captain Harry and Ga Law could signal thrilling developments in the sport’s competitive landscape, keeping fans eagerly anticipating the season ahead.
