Dana White Fires Back Fiercely on Francis Ngannou’s Return Amid PFL Contract Buzz

Francis Ngannou could become a free agent in 2026. Since leaving UFC after a long contract dispute with Dana White, the former heavyweight champion has been fighting under the PFL banner starting in 2022. Ngannou has only stepped into the cage once since, securing a dominant victory over Renan Ferreira in his PFL debut after two close boxing matches. At 39, he seems interested in returning to boxing, as finding opponents in the PFL has become challenging.

Many believe his contract limits his upward mobility, and with it expiring in 2026, Ngannou’s time with PFL might end sooner than expected. However, the possibility of him becoming a free agent before the UFC’s June 14 event hasn’t swayed UFC president Dana White’s view on bringing him back.

Relations between Ngannou and the UFC remain tense. The feud intensified when White accused Ngannou of pushing him at a UFC event. The two have no intention of reconciliation, with White publicly expressing his displeasure. In an interview with The Mac Life, White stated he’d be happier if Ngannou was released to the PFL and that he doesn’t want to work with someone he dislikes or believes isn’t a good person.

Ngannou addressed White’s allegations on the Ariel Helwani Show, neither denying nor confirming the push but suggesting cameras might provide evidence. He expressed frustration at having to respond to such claims and emphasized his desire for peace and to be left alone.

Fan Take: This development highlights the growing rift between top fighters and major promotions like UFC, emphasizing issues around contracts and athlete freedom. Ngannou’s future could significantly impact heavyweight MMA dynamics and the competitive landscape between UFC and PFL, adding intrigue for fans and shaping the sport’s future.
