Several racetracks nationwide face challenges filling races, but Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky, stands out with abundant horses and prize money. Saturday night’s event showcases this, featuring the Turfway Park Overall Championship with six furlongs to a mile races, six stakes races split between men and women, and a total prize pool of $250,000. The evening’s card includes 10 races starting at 5:55 p.m. ET with 128 horses entered.

This major event attracted stakes winners from distant regions such as Canada and South Florida. In addition, renowned Eclipse Award-winning jockeys Irad Ortiz Jr. and Flavien Prat, each scheduled for nine races, will be competing.

Following Turfway’s final race at 10:25 p.m. ET on Saturday, horse racing proceeds to Sha Tin Racecourse for the Longines Hong Kong International Races, featuring four Group 1 turf contests from six furlongs to 1.5 miles. These events promise excitement for late-night viewers and offer substantial prize money in the World Pool.

This week also includes one Kentucky Derby prep race, the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity, where trainer Bob Baffert has entered three of the six contenders, showing his ongoing dominance. The winner will earn 10 points toward qualifying for the 2026 Kentucky Derby.

Oaklawn Racecourse kicks off its 2025-26 season with the two-year-old Advent Stakes on Friday, running races from Friday through Sunday until January 4, with an additional race day on Thursday, January 1. After a short break, the meet resumes on January 30 and continues through May 2.

The Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity, held at 7 p.m., has featured fewer runners but remains significant with Bob Baffert targeting his 15th win in this race, which dates back to 1997 with its first winner, Real Quiet—a Kentucky Derby and Preakness champion. Attention is on Baffert’s promising starters and Into Mischief’s mare Provenance, the first offspring of champion Monomoy Girl, making her stakes debut. Derby points will be adjusted if fewer than six horses run.

At 8:25 p.m., the My Charmer Stakes/Synthetic Championship will take place at Turfway Park, featuring Caitlin Hargurtness stretching out to a mile after a close finish at seven furlongs. She’ll be ridden by Flavien Prat, while Brad Cox sends Reiterate, a multiple winner on Woodbine’s synthetic surface, with Irad Ortiz Jr. aboard.

The Holiday Inaugural Stakes/Synthetic Championship, scheduled for 8:55 p.m., offers $250,000 for fillies and mares. Brendan Walsh’s filly Pondering, who won the Bessarabian, highlights this field, showing strong potential on synthetic tracks, with jockey Kelsey Danner impressively winning five of nine races at Turfway.

At 9:25 p.m., the Prairie Bayou Stakes/Synthetic Championship features Woodbine-based Dresden Rowe, returning to Turfway after narrowly losing last year. He is favored with jockey Flavien Prat riding and trainer Brad Cox preparing, known for his success on synthetic surfaces and recent Turfway wins.

The 9:55 p.m. Holiday Cheer Stakes/Synthetic Championship presents a six-furlong challenge, with jockey Howard Wolowitz defending his title. The field includes Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Norvals, multiple stakes winner Rollon Big Joe, and the experienced Arrest Me Red, trained by Wesley Ward.
