Piastri Calls for Fair Treatment at McLaren Following Norris’ ‘Superman’ Remark

Oscar Piastri does not believe that his McLaren teammate Lando Norris will suddenly perform superhuman feats now that he has clinched the Formula 1 world championship. Norris secured his first F1 title by finishing third at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, just behind Piastri and Max Verstappen from Red Bull.

The 26-year-old British driver finished the season just two points shy of Verstappen, while Piastri led most of the season and was Norris’ primary competitor. However, Norris gained momentum at a crucial point, whereas Piastri faltered with six consecutive races without a podium finish. Despite Norris’ championship win, Piastri expects no change in how his teammate competes but insists on being treated equally next season.

Piastri stated, “No, I don’t think so. I don’t think it changes anything. Lando had a great season and deserved to be champion, but he’s still Lando Norris, not Superman.” He also emphasized the importance of fairness and equality within the team going forward.

Despite their intense rivalry, the two drivers have maintained a surprisingly good relationship. Piastri noted that competing closely for both the constructors’ and drivers’ championships with two evenly matched drivers was challenging but ultimately beneficial. He acknowledged the occasional tension but said that pushing each other has made them better drivers. Both drivers have discussed potential changes for the next season and appreciated the team’s efforts to give them a fair shot at the title.

Fan Take: This news highlights the healthy competitive spirit within McLaren, showing that intense rivalry can coexist with mutual respect. For fans, it promises thrilling battles on track next season and underscores the significance of teamwork in achieving championship success.
