MotoGP’s Leading Rookie Reveals Factory Team Moves Are ‘Not Crucial’ for Long-Term Success

Fermin Aldeguer, the standout rookie in the 2025 MotoGP season, believes that joining a factory team isn’t crucial for his future achievements, despite being highly sought after for the 2027 rider lineup. The Spanish rider advanced to MotoGP this year through a direct two-year deal with Ducati, racing under Gresini.

Aldeguer, who claimed his first win at the Indonesian Grand Prix on the GP24, finished the season 8th overall and earned the Rookie of the Year title. As he gains attention on the 2027 market, offers from factory teams are expected, but Aldeguer emphasizes that the most important factor will be having a competitive bike with strong manufacturer support, especially with the upcoming 850cc regulations change.

He acknowledges the benefits of riding an official factory bike but also points out the added pressure it brings to perform consistently, as performance can vary throughout the season. For Aldeguer, the key in 2027 will be focusing on the development of the GP27 bike rather than simply being part of a factory squad.

In 2025, Ducati continued to lead the field, particularly against Marc Marquez, although Aprilia presented a stronger challenge in the latter half of the season. The rules reset in 2027, combined with the introduction of Pirelli tires, is expected to shake up the standings, but Aldeguer remains confident that Ducati will maintain its competitive edge.

Looking ahead, Aldeguer will be riding the GP25 next year, while his teammate Alex Marquez will have a factory GP26. Aldeguer sees staying ahead of Marquez as a sign of strong performance but insists his main goal is to keep improving, learning, and securing frequent top-five finishes rather than directly targeting his teammate.
