  • Crystal Palace could be tempted to sell Marc Gehi
  • Selling Guehi in January is crucial for their finances.

According to Football Insider, Crystal Palace could go ahead with the sale of defender Marc Guehi, despite manager Oliver Glasner’s desire to keep his captain at the club.

The English defender has always been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park due to his contract situation.

Guehi is due to become a free agent next year but has made it clear to the club that he has no intention of signing a new contract at Selhurst Park.

Despite potentially losing him on a free transfer next summer, Glasner wants to keep him at the club for the remainder of the season.

However, Palace bosses are keen to sign him and make some money from selling him in the January transfer window.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Palace may try to make some money out of the move, but that might not sit well with manager Glasner.

“The palace is in a very difficult situation because of Guehi.” he told Football Insider.

“Glassner obviously doesn’t want to lose him in the middle of the season. He’s an important player, their captain, one of their best players, very important to everything they do.”

“So, playing-wise, it would be very risky to let him leave in January when they still have ambitions to move up the league table and win Europe.

“The problem is that it becomes very attractive for the palace hierarchy to sell.

“They almost let him go in the summer and would have let him go without the manager’s protests, so I’m sure he will be tempted again.”

Palace are currently in a difficult situation regarding their centre-back’s future.

Financially, it would be better than losing him on a free, so selling him in the January transfer window makes perfect sense.

However, as far as this season’s ambitions are concerned, losing their most important player now would be a huge blow to the team and manager.

If he is allowed to leave, Coach Glasner will likely want to sign a top-class replacement in January.

It was Glasner who blocked his move last summer and his decision proved to be a masterstroke for Palace on the pitch.

They currently sit fifth in the league, 10 points behind league leaders Arsenal, and have had an excellent season so far, but Glasner may have to plan for the second half of the season without his influential captain.
