Fabrizio Romano named second Manchester United surprise target in January as second transfer list emerges

Manchester United are keeping an eye on Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams ahead of the January transfer window, manager Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

The 26-year-old midfielder emerged as a surprise move target for the Red Devils in January.

The Daily Mail previously reported that Man United are keen on a double raid on Bournemouth, with the club aiming to sign both Antoine Semenyo and Tyler Adams.

And now Romano has confirmed that the Red Devils are indeed keeping an eye on the Bournemouth midfielder.

According to Romano, United are currently working with two separate transfer lists. The elite list includes Carlos Bareva, Elliott Anderson and Adam Wharton, who are considered “top, top targets” internally, but are very difficult players to sign in January.

Tyler Adams is on the second list of more realistic January options, but a potential deal remains complicated.

Romano added that Bournemouth view Adams as a key figure under manager Andoni Iraola, making negotiations difficult both in terms of timing and valuation.

Romano gave an update on Adams in a YouTube video, saying:

“Tyler Adams, from what I’ve heard, is one of the names Manchester United are monitoring, but he’s not the only name as Man United’s list includes several players.

“There are two separate lists. There are players like Carlos Bareva, Elliott Anderson and Adam Wharton who are top targets. These players are considered top targets but are very unlikely in January.”

“There may be more opportunities in the season in January, but Bournemouth want to keep players like Tyler Adams.

“Bournemouth believe that Tyler Adams is a really important player for them, so ultimately it won’t be easy for Man United to try and find a solution in terms of price and timing.”

But the Cherries may not be ready to part ways with Adams. This comes as Antoine Semenyo is increasingly likely to leave in January, with Liverpool considered favorites to sign him despite strong competition from Man City, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Romano continued: “Bournemouth want to keep him, partly because of the Antoine Semenyo situation. So imagine for Bournemouth losing two players like Semenyo and Tyler Adams after already selling a number of important players in the summer transfer window.”

“At the moment Bournemouth insist on keeping Tyler Adams at the club. After that we will wait and see what happens.”

“For now, this is the assessment from United. Manchester United like the player and see him as a final option, but he is not the only player at the moment and it will not be easy because the club insists on keeping the player in the January transfer window and finishing the season with Tyler Adams as one of the key figures for Andoni Iraola.”

Why Tyler Adams appeals to Ruben Amorim and Manchester United

From a Manchester United perspective, Tyler Adams fits some of the key traits that Ruben Amorim values in a midfielder.

The American is tactically disciplined, strong in the press and capable of operating as a single pivot, a role central to Amorim’s preferred system.

Securing a new midfielder remains a priority for Amorim, and will become even more important if Koby Mainu leaves in January.

Carlos Bareva and Elliott Anderson remain the club’s top targets, but Adams could be brought in in the winter.
