Cryptijim aims to continue his strong performance following his impressive victory in the Amber River Life Landscaping EBF ‘National Hunt’ Novice Hurdle at Newbury on Wednesday. Trained by Joe Tizard, the five-year-old made a notable impact at Ascot, overcoming Dan Skelton’s Lorico.
William Harvey will be running Daydream Nation, who recently secured a striking win at Golan, while Ben Poehling’s Trial By Jury, a recent Irish points winner from October, is expected to challenge the favorites. Cryptijim races in the Brocade Racing Gold Cup colors owned by Garth and Ann Bloom, who shared their thoughts:
“He has to learn to handle defeat since he loses more often than he wins. I hope he performs well, and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t after his brilliant win at Ascot.”
Ann Bloom added, “When we visited Tom Malone, he showed us two horses: Cryptijim and Alexei. Anne favored Cryptijim, her preferred type, while I preferred something different and chose Alexei, so we bought both. This seems like a smart move.”
Nicky Henderson’s Lerkiel Hurdle champion Lucky Place is set for redemption after his chasing debut loss in the Christmas Queen’s Arms ‘Chasing Excellence’ Beginner’s Chase against Ben Poling’s Jigs Forge. Meanwhile, Patrick Mullins will make his Berkshire circuit debut riding Road to Home for his father Willie in the BetVictor Wish You A Merry Christmas Handicap Chase.
“It’s my first time at Newbury, and I’m really excited,” said Mullins, who also rode a winner at Catterick on Tuesday. Known as Ireland’s top amateur jockey, Patrick is on track to win at every British racecourse, though Catterick remains pending.
Fan Take: This lineup highlights emerging talent and interesting rivalries that keep horse racing thrilling for fans. Cryptijim’s continued success alongside rising stars like Daydream Nation and Trial By Jury signals a promising future for the sport, engaging audiences with every race.
