Blues Snag Jonathan Berggren Off Red Wings’ Waivers

The St. Louis Blues continue to expand their roster with the recent addition of forward Jonathan Berggren, who was placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings and will now join the Blues. Berggren, 25, has played 15 games this season with Detroit, contributing six points (two goals, four assists). Originally a second-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft from Uppsala, Sweden, he has accumulated 64 points (31 goals, 33 assists) over 169 NHL games.

The Blues face a shortage of forwards due to multiple injuries, including Dylan Holloway, Jordan Kyrou, Jimmy Snagaard, Nathan Walker, and Nick Bjugstad, who has been placed on injured reserve to make room for Berggren. To help cover these absences, St. Louis has also called up Hugh McGing, Matt Ruff, and Otto Stenberg from the AHL’s Springfield team and signed Robbie Fabbri to a one-year, two-way contract.

Fan Take: This move highlights the ongoing challenges teams face with injuries and the importance of depth in the NHL. Adding a player like Berggren could provide the Blues with fresh energy and versatility, potentially impacting their performance during this critical stretch of the season.
