The Knicks have clinched the 2025 NBA Cup, yet fans won’t see a new banner raised at Madison Square Garden. While the team plans to honor their players’ achievements and offer fans a moment of celebration during Friday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, officials shared with SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley that their primary focus remains on securing an NBA championship in June, aiming for a greater accomplishment.

On Tuesday night, the Knicks triumphed over the San Antonio Spurs with a score of 124-113 to claim the NBA Cup, led by Anunoby’s 28 points. Point guard Jalen Brunson shined throughout the NBA Cup, averaging 6.5 assists, shooting 55 percent from the field, and leading all scorers with 33.5 points per game, earning him the title of 2025 NBA Cup MVP.

The Knicks’ latest banner commemorates their 2012-13 Atlantic Division championship, following their 1998-99 Eastern Conference champion banner. Their last NBA championship banner dates back to the 1973 season. Meanwhile, the reigning NBA Cup champions, the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, both celebrated their victories by raising banners marking their tournament wins.

Fan Take: This victory marks a significant milestone for the Knicks, showcasing their potential as serious contenders in the league. It’s a thrilling signal for basketball fans that the NBA Cup can highlight rising teams and players, adding excitement and prestige to the sport’s evolving competitive landscape.
