Former Manchester United star Paul Ince believes the Red Devils need to improve multiple areas of their squad if they want to compete with elite clubs.

He insists Manchester United need to invest in some quality central midfielders and some quality wing-backs. Ruben Amorim prefers a system with wing-backs, but there is no specialist player in that role.

It will be interesting to see if they can get the necessary signings over the next few periods. Manchester United have shown progress this season, but are still not at the level needed to compete for major trophies.

Meanwhile, Ince also claims he may need another striker. Joshua Zirkzee needs to be sold and Benjamin Sesco is unreliable right now.

Ince said (h/t TEAMtalk): “For Manchester United, where do we start? They need two players in central midfield. I don’t know much about Benjamin Sesco as a striker either, so it might be too early to say. Joshua Zirkzee needs a move, that’s for sure.”

“Ruben Amorim is very passionate about the 3-5-2 formation, but he is in dire need of a proper wing-back. At the moment, Amad Diallo is a winger who plays as a wing-back, so he doesn’t really understand the role.”

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can sign four or five players in the coming period. They will be desperate to get back to the top of English football, but they need quality players to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

There is no doubt that Manchester United have some weaknesses in their team. It’s clear they need quality additions. But signing five players is not easy, especially signing the right players. Manchester United should do everything they can to finish the season as well as possible. They will need Champions League football to attract top-level players.
