Jake Paul looked sharp following a tough sparring session with Lawrence Okolie, a two-division world champion, who shared the full story with Bloody Elbow. The YouTube sensation is set to fight two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Miami, having brought in top-tier training weapons, including Okolie—a former cruiserweight and bridgerweight titleholder. Okolie, an Olympic medalist and protégé of Joshua, stands 6-foot-6 and weighed 262 pounds in his last fight. Paul felt the full impact of Okolie’s strength during training camp, while Okolie is also prepping for his bout against Ebenezer Tetteh, airing live on DAZN in Nigeria on December 21.

When questioned about Jake Paul’s black eye from sparring, Okolie explained that he was instructed to give 100% and not hold back. He praised Paul’s competitiveness and toughness, noting that Paul managed to keep up and even set up shots well during their sessions. Okolie acknowledged the difference between sparring and the actual fight, where the stakes are higher and punches are heavier with 10-ounce gloves in play. He remarked that the fight could end quickly on fight night, with either fighter potentially knocking the other out. Despite the intensity, Okolie emphasized the strategic nature of their training, highlighting the back-and-forth nature of exchanges over several rounds, which fans likely won’t witness in the actual fight.

Paul initially revealed his black eye while appearing on Adin Ross’s stream in Puerto Rico during his fight camp. He admitted that his injury came from sparring with Okolie, a formidable heavyweight standing around 6-foot-6 and weighing approximately 270 pounds. Paul mentioned that he’s seriously training against heavyweight contenders like Okolie and Jared Anderson to prepare for his upcoming battles.
