NHL Trade Buzz: Are the Sabers Eyeing the Talented Flyers Forward?

The Buffalo Sabers have faced difficulties this season, making it clear they may need to revamp their roster. Given their current lineup, bringing in an additional skilled forward seems like a smart move.

Since the Sabers are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, signing short-term rental players isn’t ideal. Instead, they should focus on acquiring players with several years left on their contracts who can contribute meaningfully over the long haul.

Among trade options, Philadelphia Flyers forward Owen Tippett emerges as a compelling possibility. Tippett carries a $6.2 million cap hit that extends through the 2031-32 season, so he wouldn’t just be a temporary addition. This contract length suggests he could be a key player for Buffalo moving forward.

If the Sabers bring Tippett in, they’d be adding a 26-year-old forward capable of fitting into their top-nine forwards, especially on the power play. Tippett, a 2017 first-round pick, has played 32 games this season, tallying nine goals, 11 assists, and 20 points. He’s also consistently scored at least 20 goals in each of the last three seasons, with a career-high 28 goals this season.

Overall, Tippett could be a valuable asset for Buffalo if the Flyers decide to trade him before the deadline.

Fan Take: This potential move is exciting for hockey fans because it signals Buffalo’s commitment to rebuilding with talent that can make a lasting difference. It also highlights the dynamic nature of NHL trades and how teams strategize to build competitive rosters for the future.
