3 Must-Sign MLB Free Agents for the Mariners: Should They Bring Back Luis Arraez and Re-sign Eugenio Suarez?

The Seattle Mariners came close to reaching the World Series for the first time last season, falling short after leading the American League Championship Series 3-2 against the Toronto Blue Jays. Yet, they are well-positioned to contend for the American League pennant again in 2026, especially after securing first baseman Josh Naylor with a five-year, $92.5 million contract last month. Now, the team needs to address other key roster spots.

Here are three free agents in MLB that Seattle should consider signing:

1. Chris Paddack, a right-handed pitcher, showed great potential in his 2019 rookie season with the San Diego Padres, posting a 3.33 ERA and 153 strikeouts. Despite a down year in 2025, Paddack could thrive in Seattle’s strong pitching development environment, potentially as a full-time reliever, adding depth to the bullpen and possibly filling in as a starter if injuries strike the rotation.

2. Luis Arraez, an exceptional contact hitter with a .317 career batting average, would help balance the Mariners’ powerful but overly home-run-dependent offense. Arraez’s ability to get on base consistently and play multiple infield positions would complement the team’s power hitters like Cal Lowry and Julio Rodriguez, strengthening overall offensive versatility.

3. Eugenio Suarez, an elite power-hitting third baseman, had a standout 2025 season with 49 home runs and 118 RBIs. Having recently joined the Mariners from the Diamondbacks, Suarez looks like a perfect fit for Seattle’s lineup, providing steady power and experience, while allowing the team to continue building on their recent playoff success.

Fan Take: This potential roster strengthening shows the Mariners’ determination to solidify their status as a top contender in the American League. For baseball enthusiasts, it raises the excitement of seeing a team blend youthful talent and veteran power, potentially reshaping the competition landscape for years to come.
