Brad Keselowski suffered a broken right leg during a ski trip on Thursday but is determined that this injury won’t prevent him from competing in the Daytona 500, scheduled in eight weeks. On Friday, Keselowski shared a video showing himself cautiously walking in the hospital with the support of walkers, also posting an X-ray and an image depicting a rod implanted in his leg after undergoing what his team described as “routine surgery” to fix the fracture.

He posted a message acknowledging the setback, saying, “Life has a way of reminding you to slow down. I’m grateful for my family, an excellent medical team, and the progress I’ve made today. My focus remains on Daytona. Plus, I’m bionic now!” The team did not clarify if the injury occurred from a specific skiing accident.

Keselowski, who was the 2012 Cup champion, will have the opportunity to test his fitness before the Daytona 500 to see if he can participate in the sport’s premier event, with the first practice on February 11. There is one preseason race on February 1, which is a non-points event and something Keselowski could skip if he’s still recovering.

In a statement, Keselowski expressed gratitude for his medical care and support, emphasizing, “My focus is now entirely on recovery. I aim to regain full fitness quickly and will work tirelessly to be ready for Daytona.” The driver, who will turn 42 in February, ended the 2025 Cup season ranked 20th.

Fan Take: This news is significant for NASCAR fans as Keselowski is a respected and competitive driver whose presence greatly impacts the excitement of the Daytona 500. His injury and recovery journey will be closely watched and could inspire fans and fellow racers alike, highlighting the resilience and dedication at the heart of the sport.
