Sheffield Wednesday face a “major decision” after receiving a new bid from one of its potential takeover players, according to reports.

Chris Wigfield confirms EFL decision in new statement

It’s been a tough time for Sheffield Wednesday, but Chris Wigfield at least gave fans some good news earlier today. The joint administrators confirmed that the EFL’s independent Club Financial Review Panel (CFRP) has concluded its disciplinary review into historic financial breaches and decided that no further points will be penalized, while also issuing an update on the sale of the club.

Wigfield said: “We welcome the CFRP’s decision not to apply any further deductions. We appreciate their constructive work through an understandably difficult period. This conclusion provides much-needed certainty and allows us to focus fully on stabilizing the club and planning for the future.”

Good news for the Owls.

”We recognize that this season has tested the patience of our supporters. Transparency remains our priority, and we hope that by drawing a clear line on these issues, everyone can focus on supporting our team.

“We would also like to provide an update on the sales process. We understand the frustration of limited communication at this stage, but a period of confidentiality is essential to protect the integrity of the process.

“Work continues behind the scenes to identify a preferred bidder and real progress is being made. Once that stage is reached, the EFL will need to complete regulatory checks.”

In this regard, reports earlier this week suggested that Sheffield Wednesday are close to appointing an exclusive buyer with Mike Ashley and John McEvoy in a bid to complete the deal.

Further reports add further developments. According to BBC Sport’s Rob Staton, Sheffield Wednesday have received a bid from the Storch Group, which has teamed up with McEvoy, and now have to make a “major decision”.

Staton provided an update on the situation and claimed that a bid had been made by the Storch Group today as Sheffield Wednesday look to finally usher in a new era at the club.

It remains to be seen whether the process will move forward. The same can be said for Ashley’s club pursuits. The former Newcastle United owner has reportedly made a minimum offer for the club, but remains a candidate.

As for the Storch Group, they could still emerge as the party of choice, thanks to McEvoy’s wealth backed by his work in the aviation industry and his familiarity with sports investing.

The Owls may be destined for League One, but at least they can put the Digifone Chansiri era behind them for good.
