Shohei Ohtani, a two-time World Series champion and star player for the Los Angeles , continues to break records both on and off the field. On Thursday, one of his 2025 Topps Chrome MVP Award Gold MLB Logoman patch cards sold for an unprecedented $3 million via Fanatics Collect, shattering his previous card sale record of $1.067 million achieved in March through Heritage Auctions.

This landmark sale set multiple records: it became the highest-priced Ohtani card ever publicly sold, the top-selling card in Fanatics Collect Auctions history, and the best-selling modern baseball card in the last five years. It surpassed the 1933 Babe Ruth Gordy card, which had sold for $1.63 million in 2024.

According to Fanatics, the unique 1/1 autograph card, featuring Ohtani’s image and the gold Logoman patch worn during a game against the Miami Marlins on April 29, 2025, drew 69 competitive bids in a bidding war that lasted past 2 a.m. ET. During that game, Ohtani went 1-for-4 with his seventh home run of the season, helping the secure a 15-2 win.

Ohtani and the capped the 2025 season by claiming back-to-back World Series titles after a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Ohtani also earned his fifth straight All-Star nod, sixth consecutive All-MLB First Team honor, and his third straight MVP award.

Fan Take: This record-breaking card sale highlights Ohtani’s massive impact on baseball culture and collectibles. For fans, it underscores how a transcendent player can shape the sport’s legacy and elevate the value of baseball memorabilia to historic heights.
