Aaron Boone on Yankees’ Lineup: “We’ve Got a Strong Squad, But There’s More to Come”

The Yankees have experienced a relatively quiet offseason so far. Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that many roster spots remain open and indicated the team is “probably not finished” yet.

Boone emphasized, “We know we have a really good team right now, with many talented players on our roster, but adjustments are still expected before spring training. It’s a process that involves other teams and free agents, and regardless of how things develop, we’re preparing to be a strong team.”

After a 94-win season, the Yankees boast a solid lineup, but their AL East rivals, like the Orioles and Blue Jays, have made significant free-agent additions. So far, the Yankees have only added Rule 5 pick Cade Winquest to their major league roster.

They managed to keep several important players from last season, re-signing Amed Rosario and Ryan Yarbrough to one-year deals, adding Trent Grisham, and picking up Tim Hill’s club option. However, they lost key bullpen pitchers, including Devin Williams and Luke Weaver, with Weaver recently moving to the Mets and Ian Hamilton signing with Atlanta.

Still, the Yankees remain a potential destination for outfielder Cody Bellinger, who was a top priority this offseason after a strong first year in New York, hitting 29 home runs and 98 RBIs. Boone said he’s not fully aware of the behind-the-scenes discussions but plans to contact Bellinger during the holidays.

Whether or not Bellinger returns, New York definitely needs bullpen reinforcements and is also exploring ways to strengthen their pitching rotation due to several arms missing at the season’s start.

Fan Take: This cautious approach by the Yankees shows the delicate balancing act of building a championship-caliber team in a competitive division. Baseball fans should watch closely how these offseason moves and potential signings influence the dynamics in the AL East and the overall race for the playoffs.
