Morocco kicked off the African Cup of Nations on Sunday with an impressive 2-0 victory against Comoros, highlighted by Ayub El Kaabi’s superb second-half goal.

In the 74th minute, leading 1-0, Anas Salah-Edin lobbed the ball into the box, allowing El Kaabi to perform an incredible bicycle kick from the center, showcasing his athleticism.

You can see the stunning goal below.

This goal reflected Morocco's overall control of the match, in which they held 70% of the possession and registered 16 shots against Comoros' 4. Despite a rocky start, including a penalty miss by Sufjan Rahimi in the 11th minute—saved by Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor—and a 19th-minute injury to defender Romain Saiss, Morocco quickly regained their footing.

The breakthrough came in the 55th minute through Brahim Diaz, who scored after receiving a pass from Nousser Mazraoui, marking a successful debut in his first international tournament since switching from Spain to Morocco this year.

Morocco's coach Walid Reglagui remarked, "First matches are always challenging, but we executed well in the second half."

Currently, Morocco leads Group A, with Mali and Zambia scheduled to face off on Monday. Morocco's next match will be against Mali on Friday, followed by a game against Zambia on December 29.

As the first African nation to reach the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup, Morocco is now striving for its first African Cup of Nations title since 1976. They are currently on a remarkable 19-match winning streak, surpassing Spain's 15-game run from 2008-2009.

Fan Take: This victory is significant for Morocco as it not only sets a strong tone for the tournament but also reinforces their rising status in international football. For soccer fans, Morocco’s quest for the Cup could signal a shift in competitive balance within African football, inspiring hope for more teams to challenge traditional powerhouses.
