  • A blow for Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes injured
  • Fernandes is important for Manchester United

Manchester Untied manager Ruben Amorim has provided a worrying update regarding captain Bruno Fernandes’ injury.

United lost 2-1 to in-form Aston Villa thanks to two excellent goals from Morgan Rodgers.

Rodgers gave Villa the lead with a superb solo goal in the 45th minute. However, the lead did not last long as Cunha took advantage of a mistake by the Villa defense to equalize just before the half-time whistle.

However, Rodgers scored his second goal of the game 12 minutes into the second half, hitting it into the top right corner to make it 2-1.

His second goal ended up being Villa’s winning goal, as Unai Emery’s side secured their 10th straight win in all competitions.

To add to the misery for Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes suffered an injury in the second half.

Manager Ruben Amorim gave an update on the Portuguese’s injury, which was a cause for concern.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s really strange. We’ve got so many problems this year, especially at this time of year, that we have to deal with.”

“I think Fletcher has played his first game, so that’s good news, and Lacey too, so we’re going to find a solution and move on to the next game.

“I’ve been the manager for six years and at Sporting it’s all about the academy, so history is important.

“Every manager wants to take players out of the academy and they don’t want to spend money because it brings value to the manager.

“I just want to win and I want to make sure that the players coming in from the academy don’t suffer too much.

“I’m just trying to help the club, whether it’s from the academy or abroad, it doesn’t matter.

“I think it’s a soft tissue (Fernandes injury) so it’s going to take some time. We’ll see.”

Fernandes is important for Manchester United

Losing Fernandes for such a crucial period would be a devastating blow to Manchester United, especially given the captain’s stellar form during the 2025/26 season.

The 31-year-old has undoubtedly been his life and served as the creative driving force for Amorim’s team.

Before the game against Villa, Fernandes had scored five goals and provided seven assists in just 16 Premier League appearances this season.

His influence was on full display in the recent thrilling 4-4 win against Bournemouth, where he earned a match rating of 8.8 with a dominant playmaking performance.

He is currently leading the team in chance creation and important passing, underscoring his position as the team’s indispensable architect.

Amorim faces the difficult task of replacing a player who has contributed to nearly a third of United’s league goals this term, with tough fixtures looming.
