Sidney Crosby has finally claimed the top spot in Pittsburgh Penguins history after 472 more games. During Sunday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens, Crosby assisted on a power-play goal in the first period, securing his second goal of the night and bringing his career total to 1,724 points. This achievement means he has overtaken legendary Mario Lemieux as the Penguins’ all-time leading scorer and now holds eighth place on the NHL’s all-time points leaderboard.

At 38 years old, Crosby is having another outstanding season with 20 goals and 37 points in 35 games. He is on track to score 47 goals this year, which would be his second-highest season total, and is poised to extend his streak of scoring 20 or more goals for 21 consecutive seasons, surpassing his own record. To climb further on the all-time points chart, he needs 32 points to pass Steve Yzerman for seventh place and just 11 points to surpass Brendan Shanahan for 14th place.

In other Penguins news, the recent trade involving goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Sam Poulin moving to the Edmonton Oilers shocked many fans and players. Pittsburgh received goaltender Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second-round pick in return, a move that surprised the hockey community.

Fan Take: Sidney Crosby’s milestone is a monumental moment for hockey fans, highlighting the longevity and elite talent that define his career. Meanwhile, the Jarry trade signals a strategic shift for the Penguins, sparking curiosity about how these changes will impact the team’s future and the league’s competitive landscape.
