  • Semenyo will offer something different to the Reds

Liverpool’s January transfer plans could be accelerated following Alexander Isak’s serious injury setback, with Antoine Semenyo emerging as a realistic and increasingly attractive option.

According to the Telegraph, the Reds are considering triggering the Bournemouth forward’s £65m release clause after reassessing their attacking depth in light of Isak’s suspected leg fracture.

Isak is believed to have suffered a serious lower leg injury and early indications suggest the Sweden international could be out for several months.

Liverpool are awaiting full medical clarity, but internal discussions have already begun on whether reinforcements are needed early on due to the seriousness of the situation.

Liverpool focus on Antoine Semenyo

This put the focus firmly on Antoine Semenyo. The Bournemouth attacker had an excellent season, scoring eight goals in 16 appearances in the Premier League, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wide forwards.

Importantly, Semenyo’s contract includes a release clause of £65 million, which comes into effect in January.

However, reports suggest that this clause is time-limited and will expire on January 10, meaning interested clubs will have to take the plunge.

This detail makes the situation even more tense, especially as competition intensifies.

Manchester United and Manchester City are also big fans and have been in contact with the player, with Liverpool potentially in a three-way battle.

Isak’s situation may force manager Arne Slott’s side to take serious action in signing Semenyo.

Semenyo is a wide attacker but would add more goals and creativity if the Premier League champions win the race to sign him.

The central attacking position is occupied by Hugo Ekitike, who has been in great form this season and has been Liverpool’s best summer recruit this season.

Semenyo would suggest something different. He will compete for wide positions with the likes of Kodi Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, adding much-needed depth and quality to the Merseyside club’s squad.

It will not be easy for the Reds to sign Semenyo, as all of the Premier League’s top clubs, including Man United and Man City, are in the race to sign him.
