Liverpool may have spent over £400m in the summer, but there will be even more work to do in the January transfer window. Bringing in a new attacker has been a priority after Alexander Isak has been sidelined for several months after breaking his foot in the win over Tottenham at the weekend.

Manager Arne Slott has made it clear that he needs another forward and plans to bring in Antoine Semenyo. Man United and Man City have been competing for the Bournemouth player, but the reigning Premier League champions could snatch the spot.

According to Football Insider, Mick Brown has confirmed that Liverpool plan to accelerate their pursuit of Semenyo.

“Liverpool are going to intensify their interest in Semenyo. Now with Isak having this serious injury, coupled with the fact that he and Salah are off to AFCON and he may not be at Liverpool for long.”

“Semenyo is a very good footballer and a player that a lot of top clubs are chasing. So from Liverpool’s point of view, when something like this happens, it’s a deal they really want to achieve and they want to beat other clubs. The manager wants to add depth to the attack, so it would make a lot of sense.”

“This shows how quickly priorities change in football. I always said they would be looking for a right-back on Sunday, but by Monday morning they would need a left-winger. “With things changing for Liverpool, there is a good chance they will sign Semenyo, especially with the way things are at this time of year.

Isak’s absence, combined with Salah’s uncertain future at Anfield, means Liverpool definitely need another attacker, and Semenyo would fit like a glove. He has been in great form this season and could be rewarded with a move to Merseyside in the coming weeks.
