Rising Star Jesse Opens Up About Friend Connor Girish: ‘His Motivation Fueled My Journey’

Jesse Love’s journey to securing the 2025 Xfinity Series championship was heavily influenced by his close friend Connor Girish. Although Love didn’t match Girish’s outstanding season results, with Girish, a rookie at JR Motorsports, winning 10 races and leading over 1,000 laps, compared to Love’s two wins and 297 laps led, Love still managed to claim the title after a strong finish at Daytona.

Throughout the season, while Girish’s reputation as a rising star grew—especially after winning his Xfinity debut and consistently performing well on both road courses and ovals—Love faced the challenge of competing against this new level of success. Girish’s streak of 18 consecutive top-five finishes put pressure on Love, who despite nine top-five results, couldn’t keep pace directly.

Love struggled with this dynamic but chose to channel his competitive spirit positively. Recognizing that he couldn’t control Girish’s achievements but could focus on improving himself, Love found motivation in wanting to outperform his friend. “I don’t like losing to him. I wake up every day wanting to beat him,” Love said after winning the championship.

This rivalry and friendship form part of the “Rising” documentary series, which explores several driver storylines. Love admitted that dealing with the shift in attention toward Girish was “really tough,” but he used it as fuel to keep pushing forward. According to team chief Danny Stockman, while Girish’s exceptional season created extra pressure, Love needed to focus on his personal growth and team performance.

Next year, Girish will advance to the Cup Series with Trackhouse, while Love remains with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) for another year in the newly rebranded O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, aiming for a Cup Series qualification in 2027. Love acknowledges that without Girish to compete against directly, he’ll need to adopt a new mindset.
