Mr. AP, who finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, has been withdrawn from the Kentucky Derby lineup due to an undisclosed injury, according to the Daily Racing Form. The son of American Pharoah was purchased for $150,000 by trainer Vladimir Selin and owners Holly and David Wilson. In his two-turn debut, Ridling narrowly defeated him by a nose, and Mr. AP later secured second place behind multiple Grade 1 winner Ted Nophy in the Juvenile.

Trainer Selin noted the horse experienced a minor setback and hopes Mr. AP will be ready by the end of March, although this delay complicates preparations. Bred by Pollock Farms, Mr. AP has achieved one victory and three second-place finishes in four races so far. He is out of the Grade 2 filly Trench Town Cat, sired by Discrete Cat.

Fan Take: The absence of Mr. AP from the Kentucky Derby is significant for racing enthusiasts as it removes a strong contender from the field, potentially opening the door for emerging stars. This highlights the unpredictable nature of horse racing, where injuries can swiftly change the landscape, keeping the sport both thrilling and uncertain.
