The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame has revealed its list of candidates for the 2026 Hall of Fame induction, featuring several prominent women’s basketball icons. Among the top nominees are former WNBA legends Candace Parker and Elena Delle Donne, both celebrated for their extraordinary contributions to the sport.

Candace Parker’s career stands out as one of the most impactful in women’s basketball, marked by her exceptional versatility, longevity, and ability to influence game outcomes. She made history as the first WNBA player to earn both Rookie of the Year and MVP honors in the same season, following her success in leading the University of Tennessee to consecutive national titles. Parker has secured championships with three different WNBA teams alongside numerous individual accolades.

Elena Delle Donne is recognized for her scoring efficiency, leadership qualities, and triumphant achievements in college and professional basketball alike. She transitioned seamlessly to the WNBA, capturing two MVP awards and winning a championship with the Washington Mystics in 2019. Known for her rare inclusion in the 50-40-90 club, Delle Donne’s offensive dominance has been a defining aspect of her legacy.

John L. Doleba, president and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, highlighted the significance of this year’s candidates, stating, “Each of the candidates in the Class of 2026 left an indelible impact on the world of basketball. This year’s voting recognizes outstanding athletes who continue to shape the way the game is played, coached, and celebrated through clear performances, influential leadership, and achievements that have helped elevate the sport on national and international stages.”

Vivian Stringer, the first NCAA Division I women’s team to reach the national championship game.

The Hall of Fame is expected to announce the finalists during the NBA All-Star Weekend in February, with the official Class of 2026 induction unveiled at the NCAA Final Four on April 4. The enshrinement ceremony will be held over the weekend of August 14 and 15 at Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut and Symphony Hall in Massachusetts.

Fan Take: This announcement is huge for WNBA fans as it recognizes the incredible talent and influence of women who have shaped the sport’s history and future. Honoring legends like Parker and Delle Donne not only celebrates their achievements but also inspires the next generation of players and elevates the visibility and respect for women’s basketball worldwide.
