According to recent reports, Liverpool have made a mega-offer to sign Ibrahima Konate in 2026 in a key upgrade.

Arne Slott claims winning the Premier League is ‘impossible’

Much of the attention this week has been focused on Alexander Isak’s injury, but Arne Slott has once again focused his attention on Liverpool’s struggles on the pitch ahead of Saturday’s clash with bottom side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Dutchman admitted his frustration with Liverpool’s set-piece record, insisting it was “impossible” for the team to maintain their Premier League record amid their current struggles.

Liverpool keen to sign £100m ‘warrior’ in upgrade for Mac Allister

Liverpool are preparing to make a series of changes in the 2026 transfer window.

He told reporters: “We know how important it is, but it’s becoming more and more important and that’s why we’re so frustrated with our current performance. We didn’t concede a single set-piece (goal) in the middle of last season (when we won the league), so it’s a big frustration with where we are this season.”

“It’s impossible to be in the top four or top five on set-piece balance, let alone win the league. We are the only team at the top of the table with a negative set-piece balance (in fact, Manchester City are at -1, according to official data provider Opta). “We are not only negative, we are -8, yet we are still level on points with fourth place.

“But if we’re -8, I think Chelsea are +8 (actually +4) and Arsenal and United are very high (10 points each). When you look at that, you can see how special it is that we’re winning as many points as we do with a balance of set-pieces. We all know why, because we’re number one in the league in terms of open chances created.”

This is clearly a problem for the players at Anfield, especially Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk. Both French players in particular have struggled this season and recent rumors suggest Liverpool are ready to make a move.

Liverpool launch mega offer to sign Marc Gehi

According to a Spanish report from Sport Witness, Liverpool have launched a mega-offer to sign Guehi in 2026 ahead of Barcelona. Bayern Munich are also interested in signing the player, and are said to be prepared to offer him a hefty annual salary.

However, it remains to be seen whether the bid is to bring the Crystal Palace star in in January or as a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.

The England international joined Liverpool within hours of joining in the summer, but Palace left in the closing stages. After a few months, they were finally able to get a man.

As Liverpool mull over Konate’s own contract situation, Gehi once again stands out as an impressive target. He would not only be Konate’s successor, but also an upgrade over the former RB Leipzig player. While Konate has struggled, Guehi has improved at Crystal Palace this season.

Liverpool appear to have moved quickly to win the race for Guehi, who was described as “fantastic” by Palace manager Oliver Glasner last year, but they won’t be alone if he ends his contract in south London.
