Redknapp’s Contender Announced for King George Glory

Fact to File and Gaelic Warrior are set to be the top contenders in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day. The pair, trained by Willie Mullins, will face off again after Gaelic Warrior narrowly beat Fact to File at Punchestown last month.

Nicky Henderson’s Arkle Chase winner, Django Bey, is one of the eight confirmed runners, as is Jukebox Man, which is owned by former football manager Harry Redknapp. Redknapp likened winning the King George to playing in the Champions League, acknowledging the high level of competition but expressing hope and ambition. Jukebox Man previously won the Kautstar Novice Chase for trainer Ben Poling at last year’s event.

Last year’s top two finishers in the King George, Banbridge and Ile Est Français, will renew their duel, while other notable entrants include Jero, victor of the Charlie Hall and Peterborough Chases, and Master Chewie.

These exciting race developments come amid uncertainty over Kempton’s future as a racecourse, with Jockey Club owner CEO Jim Mullen clarifying that the decision rests with the developer, who still holds the option to build housing on the site following a 2018 agreement.

Fan Take: This lineup promises a thrilling race at one of the season’s most prestigious events, highlighting the depth of talent in National Hunt racing. However, the uncertainty surrounding Kempton’s future adds a bittersweet note, emphasizing the importance of supporting classic venues to preserve the sport’s heritage.
