Ivan Toney has been linked with a return to the Premier League in recent months, with clubs such as Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur mentioned as possible destinations.
Meanwhile, former Premier League midfielder Jermaine Jenas has urged the striker to move to Newcastle rather than Tottenham. Although he has played for both clubs, Toney believes he is a better fit at Newcastle and will enjoy Champions League football there.
Ivan Toney has been told to join Newcastle
Jenas feels Newcastle’s setup is better than Tottenham’s at the moment and could be the perfect fit for the Magpies. His comments are unlikely to be received well by Tottenham fans.
“If I were Ivan Toney, I would probably think of Newcastle. There’s Champions League football there. Historically, the number nine at St James’ Park has always been loved too,” Jenas said (as broadcast by Chronicle Live).
“Besides that, I think Newcastle’s set-up is just a little bit better than what Spurs have at the moment. You know, he could get into a scenario where Tottenham manager, Thomas Frank, the former Brentford manager, will be under pressure at some point. I think the only thing they lack at Newcastle is a striker, and he could be that player.”
Spurs need Tony
Tottenham will need to sign a striker like Toney. Dominic Solanke has not been able to find the back of the net on a regular basis. There is no doubt that the England international will be a quality signing. He has proven himself in the Premier League with Brentford in the past and also worked with Thomas Frank during his time with the Bees. A reunion may be ideal for all parties. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
Toni has scored 43 goals in 63 appearances for Al Ahly since moving to Saudi Arabia.
