“I think there’s something special about being Newcastle’s number nine,” Crouch said (h/t Chronicle).
“Every time I go there, I feel like it’s a football city. If you think about the old centre-forwards who played for Newcastle, you’re like a hero, right? If I had scored a goal for Newcastle… They even have pre-match music playing in Newcastle.
“I always enjoyed playing there as an away player. They understand football. They live and breathe football. If I had gone right after the Alan Shearer stage I would have been a good age by then, but these things don’t work.
“This is all hypothetical, but if I had to choose one club to play for, it would be Newcastle.”
Newcastle could have used Peter Crouch
Crouch has been a very useful player for several Premier League clubs throughout his career and there is no doubt that he would have been a quality addition to Newcastle. Beyond his ability to find the back of the net, he was a model professional throughout his career, adding a whole new dimension to the offense with his incredible aerial presence.
Meanwhile, the player came very close to joining Sunderland in 2009, but opted for a move to Tottenham Hotspur after being contacted by Harry Redknapp. The former England international reportedly wanted to play for Sunderland’s rivals instead.
