  • Arthur Masuaku wants to transfer
  • Sunderland should sell Masuaku

Sunderland defender Arthur Masuaku wants to leave the club when the January transfer window opens.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo international group hopes to make a fresh start next month, the Foot RDC reports. He was not a regular starter at Sunderland and the transfer did not go well. His last appearance in the Premier League came against Manchester United in early October. He needs to move forward to play more often.

Arthur Masuaku wants to transfer

The 32-year-old is hoping to join a club where he will be a regular starter. With the World Cup play-offs looming in March, he aims to become a mainstay for his country, and to do that he needs to play regularly at club level. The defender is currently not part of the Democratic Republic of Congo national team participating in AFCON.

It will be interesting to see if he can secure a departure when he returns to Sunderland. He’s not an important player for them, and the Black Cats are unlikely to stand in his way. They should allow him to leave and invest the proceeds from his sale into quality reinforcements.

They have had an excellent run since promotion and will be aiming for a top-half spot. The team needs to improve further in order to maintain its current form and achieve good results. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop.

The 32-year-old defender has shown his quality in the past for West Ham in the Premier League and could still be a useful signing for the right side. He should aim to join a club where he can compete at a fairly high level and play every week. Perhaps joining a lower intensity league would be ideal for him.
