Graded stakes winner Unrivaled Time is set to compete against a familiar rival in the $100,000 Eddie Logan Stakes for 2-year-olds, a one-mile turf race at Santa Anita on Wednesday. Unrivaled Time is among four horses listed by Eddie Logan in the G3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes, also held at Del Mar over a mile on turf.

In the DeMille, Unrivaled Time surged late, splitting the field in a straight line to secure victory by three-quarters of a length. Not This Time, trained by Leonard Powell, won a similar mile turf race at Santa Anita in October. Unrivaled Time, co-owned by Innergy Racing Corp. and breeder Alfred Pais, boasts two wins from three starts and has earned $97,600. Diego Herrera will be aboard again.

Irish-bred Airisatch also chased in the DeMille but was overtaken late, finishing second four lengths behind Unrivaled Time. After coming to the U.S. and joining Phil D’Amato’s stable, Irish-bred Irisac placed fifth in his first U.S. start in October at Santa Anita. Ilizatti won a mile race 18 days later with jockey Humberto Rispoli. Owned by the Benowitz Family Trust and others, Ubetta Belibate holds a 4-2-1, 1-0 record with $58,369 in earnings.

Trainer Bob Baffert’s Plutarch has never finished worse than third in his five starts. After his third consecutive stakes win, Plutarch claimed a 1 1/8-mile Del Mar turf race by four and a half lengths. He finished second in the G3 Del Mar Juvenile Turf in September and placed third in the G1 American Pharoah on dirt in October. Returning to turf at the Breeders’ Cup undercard, Plutarch finished third. Owned by Mrs. John Magnier and Mrs. Michael Taber, Plutarch is 5-1-2-2 with $132,000 in earnings and will reunite with jockey Juan Hernandez.

Stark Contrast narrowly missed winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf by three-quarters of a length. The winner of the G3 Zuma Beach Stakes, trained by Michael McCarthy, Stark Contrast is set to improve his record to 4-2-1-0 and pursue $282,200 in earnings for owner Ammerman Racing LLC. Kazushi Kimura will ride Stark Contrast.

The Eddie Logan Stakes jockey and weight assignments by post position are:
1. Third Beer – Antonio Fres
2. Plutarch – Juan Hernandez – 120 lbs
3. Ilizatti – Umberto Rispoli – 120 lbs
4. Stark Contrast – Kazushi Kimura – 122 lbs
5. Bandit – Emisael Jaramillo – 120 lbs
6. Dear Good – Armando Ayuso – 118 lbs
7. Unrivaled Time – Diego Herrera – 122 lbs

The nine-race card kicks off Wednesday at noon PT, with entry gates opening at 10 a.m.

Fan Take: This matchup highlights emerging young talent on turf, showcasing horses that could shape the sport’s future on grass surfaces. For horse racing fans, the Eddie Logan Stakes offers a preview of potential stars and thrilling competition that keeps the excitement alive in the sport.
