Lando Norris credits valuable advice from F1 legend Sebastian Vettel and MotoGP champion Casey Stoner for helping him achieve his dream of becoming a world champion. In a dramatic final race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the 26-year-old British driver clinched his first world title by finishing third, narrowly beating Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by two points and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by 13 points after an intense 24-race season.

Norris shared that receiving encouragement and insights from multiple world champions, including Vettel and Stoner, played a crucial role in his mindset. “I’ve had great conversations and texts from champions like Lewis, Seb, and Casey Stoner, who sent me messages encouraging me to believe in myself and stay focused,” Norris told F1.com. He emphasized that the support system around him was instrumental, especially those critical two points that secured his championship win.

Even seven-time champ Lewis Hamilton provided guidance to Norris as the title race reached its peak. After a challenging DNF at the Dutch Grand Prix put his championship hopes at risk, Norris had to push harder than ever. Trailing teammate Piastri by 34 points with just nine races left, he boosted his performance drastically, winning crucial races and outpacing rivals.

Reflecting on that period, Norris said, “It was the toughest part of my career; I had to surpass everything I’d ever done by winning races and consistently beating my teammates. It was about digging deep, learning more about myself and my team, and working efficiently to maximize our performance.” He praised the behind-the-scenes efforts of his team, who helped him transform from being 34 points behind to world champion.

Norris concluded that the relentless hard work and teamwork made his achievement possible. “It’s not about what others see, but the dedication my team and I put in to improve every aspect of my driving and our collaboration. The journey from that 34-point deficit to becoming champion is a testament to that hard work, and I’m incredibly proud.”

Fan Take: This incredible comeback by Lando Norris not only highlights his resilience and growth but also underscores the importance of mentorship and teamwork in motorsport. For racing fans, it signals an exciting new chapter in Formula 1 where emerging talents are poised to challenge the established order, promising thrilling competition ahead.
