Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign the ‘outrageous’ midfielder, who has been brilliant in the Champions League this season.
Spurs eager to strengthen engine room
Tottenham have set about strengthening their front line with Brennan Johnson finding it difficult to get game time under manager Thomas Frank as they get to work with the January transfer window starting in just three days.
However, with Yves Bissouma’s contract due to expire at the end of the season and the Malian international struggling to force his way into Franck’s plans, it may also be wise to add reinforcements in midfield.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Spurs are in a good position to sign Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich. He is not the only option on the shortlist, given that the German has fallen down the pecking order under coach Vincent Kompany.
Tottenham have joined the race to sign Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, according to reports from Spain, with Newcastle United and former club Manchester United also mentioned as potential contenders for the Scot.
Indeed, McTominay’s impressive performances since joining Serie A have earned him numerous accolades, and a return to Old Trafford could be on the horizon.
It is unclear whether Napoli are willing to sell the central midfielder as they are said to rate him highly, but reports suggest there is tension off the pitch and a return to the Premier League could be on the cards.
McTominay has made great progress since joining Napoli.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a dream debut in Italy, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in Serie A, helping Napoli win the title.
Tottenham make new move to sign Man City star after ‘rethinking’ January plans
He once “dreamed” of a move to Spurs.
Since then, the former United man has continued to impress, scoring three goals in this season’s Champions League and also receiving praise as a result of his performances for Scotland.

In fact, Sky Sports producer Andrew Dixon waxed lyrical about the 67-time Scotland international after his stunning goal against Denmark last month helped them qualify for the World Cup.
It would therefore be exciting if Tottenham were to pursue a move for McTominay, but Napoli are in a better position to negotiate as McTominay is under contract until 2028.
