Manchester United are keen to re-establish themselves on the European stage and could be considering bringing the goal-scoring midfielder to Old Trafford.

Manchester United prepare for January transfer window

Despite managing to get over the line against Newcastle United, Manchester United’s midfield is in shambles due to injuries to Bruno Fernandes and Koby Mainu.

Jack Fletcher was once again tasked with strengthening the engine room amid Newcastle United’s second-half onslaught, but January can’t come soon enough for the Red Devils, who could be further depleted by selling Manuel Ugarte.

The Uruguayan international’s stay at Old Trafford could soon be coming to an end after he became a maligned figure among his supporters. That means Amorim will need more new players in the middle of the park if they are to succeed.

Nottingham Forest’s England star Elliott Anderson is at the top of Manchester United’s list to bring steel to their midfield situation. However, Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher has been named as a potential signing if Ugarte leaves.

Casemiro will have to manage his playing time amid injury concerns, while Brian Mbeumo and Amad Diallo’s appearances at the African Cup of Nations have also led to Amorim managing his team in other positions.

To be honest, I feel most Premier League clubs are struggling to find depth due to fitness issues and absences. However, the Red Devils did a decent job of navigating the notoriously tricky parts of the campaign.

Amorim wants to use January as a means to take his team to the next level and could be looking to seal an ambitious deal for a well-known player at Old Trafford.

UTD, a man who dreams of Scott McTominay’s return

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United are dreaming of bringing Scott McTominay back to Old Trafford and Napoli could be prepared to sell the Scotland international if an unusual offer from an interested suitor materializes.

Valued at around £60 million, he is likely to be sold in the summer after scoring five goals and providing four assists in 29 appearances this season.

The Red Devils will be hoping to beat their Premier League rivals and secure another talented option to help up front.

McTominay is a candidate for the 2025 Ballon d’Or award and was 18th at the time of the award ceremony after a stellar year for club and country, helping Scotland reach their first World Cup final since 1998.

Given his achievements, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Arsenal have also made offers for the 29-year-old, with Manchester United now set to make a move after regretting releasing him to Napoli in 2024.

Former United manager Jose Mourinho has been full of praise for the Scot’s rise at Napoli, saying: “When I think of Scotland, I think of my son Scott McTominay.

“For me he is one of the best midfielders in Europe. The kid is great and I’m very proud of his career because we bought him when he was 18, when no one at Manchester United believed he could become a player like him.”
