Marc Márquez Predicts a Thrilling and Intense 2026 MotoGP Season

Marc Marquez, the current MotoGP world champion, anticipates a highly competitive 2026 season and has identified key riders who could challenge him. The 32-year-old Spaniard starts the new year as the reigning champion for the first time since 2020, having had a dominant 2025 season with Ducati.

Marquez secured his seventh premier class title by winning 11 Grands Prix and 14 Sprints, accumulating 37 points over seven consecutive weekends from Aragon to Hungary. This achievement puts him level with MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi and just one victory shy of Giacomo Agostini’s record of eight titles.

As the clear favorite for the 2026 championship in his final year riding the 1000cc bikes, Marquez remains cautious. He emphasized that each season is unique, and past success doesn’t guarantee future results, especially since every rival will be scrutinizing him closely. He acknowledged strong competition this winter, highlighting Alex Marquez, last year’s runner-up; Marco Bezzecchi, who ended 2025 strongly; and Pecco Bagnaia, a two-time MotoGP champion and Ducati teammate, all of whom will make the season fiercely contested.

The 2025 season also saw Ducati facing rising pressure from Aprilia, which enjoyed its best year to date in MotoGP, with Bezzecchi finishing in the top three and helping Aprilia secure second place in the manufacturers’ standings. Marquez suffered a shoulder injury after a collision with Bezzecchi in Indonesia, missing the last four races, yet still maintained a commanding lead—78 points ahead of Alex Marquez and 192 points ahead of Bezzecchi.

Marquez is recovering well and is expected to compete in the first pre-season test of 2026 in Sepang this February.
