The Miami Marlins acquired outfielder Estury Ruiz from the Los Angeles on Monday night in exchange for minor league right-hander Adriano Marrero. In 2023, Lewis, known for his speed, led the American League with 67 stolen bases while playing for the Athletics. Over four seasons with four different MLB teams, he has maintained a .241 career batting average and is highly regarded for his baserunning and defensive skills.

Last April, the picked up Lewis from the Athletics, but he was mostly a backup and saw limited action, appearing in 19 games with a batting average of .190, primarily serving as a defensive substitute or pinch runner. To fill Lewis’s spot on their 40-man roster, the Marlins added infielder Eric Wagaman. This trade also opened a position on the ‘ 40-man roster.

Lewis is a reliable backup outfielder who may step in for Dane Myers, who was recently traded to Cincinnati by the Marlins.

Fan Take: This trade highlights how teams are continually seeking depth and speed to bolster their rosters, showing the strategic importance of versatile players like Lewis. For fans, it’s exciting to see how these moves could shake up lineups and impact gameplay in the coming season.
