Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Brighton defender Jan-Paul van Hecke.
The 26-year-old has impressed for the Seagulls and could be a great signing for both sides. Liverpool need a quality player to replace Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires at the end of this season. He has not signed a contract extension with the club, so Liverpool will need to start planning for a replacement.
Netherlands International could be ideal for them. It will be interesting to see if they can get a deal done. Liverpool have a strong Dutch squad and they could play a key role in convincing the player to join.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are also interested in the player. They’ve been eyeing him for a while and could add more depth to their defensive unit. It will be interesting to see if they can convince the 26-year-old to join the club.
“Both Liverpool and Tottenham are looking at Van Hecke,” Brown told Football Insider.
“He shows every week at Brighton that he is better than the average defender and that is what makes his talent stand out to other clubs.
“These are two very attractive options for him and I’m sure he will keep an eye on him if he moves.
“Liverpool are keeping an eye on him because of their situation and if for some reason he becomes available there is a good chance he could move.
“Tottenham are also looking for reinforcements and he is someone who has been on their radar for some time.”
Van Hecke wants to compete at the highest level and teams like Liverpool and Tottenham could offer him the chance to qualify for the Champions League and fight for trophies. It could be the ideal next step in his career. It will be interesting to see which of the two clubs can convince Brighton to sell the player.
