Alex Marquez: Claiming 2nd in MotoGP rankings means more to others than to me

Alex Marquez, riding for Gresini MotoGP, believes that finishing as the runner-up in the 2025 championship holds more significance for the public than it does for himself in proving his talent. The 29-year-old had his best MotoGP season in 2025, securing three Grand Prix victories on the GP24 Ducati managed by Gresini.

Throughout the season, Alex remained a consistent challenger to his older brother and multiple world champion Marc Marquez, ultimately securing a historic second place in the championship standings. This marked his best performance in the top category since his Moto2 title win in 2019.

Reflecting on the season’s end, Alex emphasized that his championships in the lower classes are just as valuable to him as his second-place finish in MotoGP. However, he acknowledges that the 2025 MotoGP result holds greater importance in gaining widespread recognition.

“For the public, it matters more,” he said. “For me, it stands on par with my 2014 Moto3 and 2019 Moto2 titles.” He added, “Being at the forefront in MotoGP confirms your talent to many, as it is perceived that you must succeed here to prove your capability in the sport.”

Alex also pointed out the importance of his previous years with Honda and his time with Gresini, noting the need to maintain a competitive presence in MotoGP. His younger brother performed admirably in 2025 on an older bike, earning a factory-spec Ducati upgrade for the following year.

Gresini enjoyed a total of four Grand Prix wins in 2025, with rookie Fermin Aldeguer scoring his maiden victory at the Indonesian GP.

Fan Take: This development is exciting for racing enthusiasts because it highlights the rising competitiveness within top-tier MotoGP, especially with the Marquez brothers pushing each other. It underscores the importance of talent recognition at the highest level, promising thrilling battles and developments in upcoming seasons.
