Sabers Reveal Latest Injury Update on Tough Alex Ryan

Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff has revealed that goaltender Alex Lyon will be leaving the team’s road trip due to a lower-body injury and is expected to be out for a brief period. This is disappointing for the Sabres, as Lyon has been a key player this season, appearing in 21 games with a 10-6-3 record, a .906 save percentage, and one shutout.

Lyon’s strong performance has been instrumental in the Sabres’ recent success, including their nine-game winning streak where he has won all seven of his last starts. His absence will certainly be felt by the team.

While Lyon is set to miss the upcoming game, the Sabres have confirmed that goaltender Colten Ellis has been activated from injured reserve after concussion protocol. The team will now depend on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Ellis to fill the goaltending gap during Lyon’s recovery.

Lyon was signed by the Sabres to a two-year, $3 million contract in the 2025 NHL offseason after playing 30 games for the Detroit Red Wings in the 2024-25 season, where he recorded 14 wins, 9 losses, and 1 overtime loss, with an .896 save percentage and a 2.81 goals-against average.

Fan Take: Lyon’s injury is a significant setback for the Sabres, especially during such a hot streak, and it highlights the importance of depth in goalkeeping for NHL teams. Fans should watch closely how the team adapts, as this could impact their playoff momentum and shift the dynamics within the division.
