Shara Magomedov Sets Sights on Michael Venom Page with Trilogy Clash to Regain UFC Ranking Glory

Shara Magomedov is gearing up for a renewed challenge to break into the Top 15 rankings, which includes planning a rematch with Michael Venom Page. The popular middleweight contender experienced his sole MMA defeat against Page at UFC Saudi Arabia in February. Despite both fighters being notable strikers, Magomedov’s superior speed gave him a clear, unanimous decision victory in their rematch.

Magomedov quickly returned to the octagon at UFC Abu Dhabi in July, where he delivered a performance that earned both him and his opponent Marc-Andre Barrio the Fight of the Night bonus, receiving $50,000 each.

Interestingly, although the fight with Page was tough, Magomedov was the favorite going into their February encounter. However, he attributed his loss to severe health problems that impacted his performance. After a grappling draw with Arman Tsarukyan, Magomedov shared in an interview with Red Corner MMA his plan to fight again next year—initially targeting opponents outside the top 15 and then aiming for a top 15 contender. He emphasized that a rematch with Michael Page is a priority to prove that his previous performance did not reflect his true abilities due to health issues.

Earlier this year, Magomedov discussed his “nightmare” health struggles with Ushataika, revealing how badly they affected him during the Page fight. He described being physically drained, losing strength and energy, and battling a bacterial and parasitic intestinal illness alongside bile flow problems. These conditions severely limited his stamina and performance, causing moments where he almost vomited mid-fight and struggled to maintain pace.

Fan Take: This update on Shara Magomedov shines a light on the often unseen health challenges fighters endure, reminding fans that outcomes aren’t just about skill or strategy. His comeback and planned rematch with Michael Venom Page could provide one of the most compelling storylines in MMA, highlighting resilience and determination in the sport.
