Santa Anita Park has announced the cancellation of live racing events scheduled for Wednesday, December 31st, and Thursday, January 1st, due to severe storms affecting Southern California. The $100,000 turf stakes races—the Eddie Logan and the Grade 3 Robert Frankel—originally planned for December 31st, will now take place on Thursday, January 8th, according to a report from the Daily Racing Form.

The storm brought up to 2.1 inches of rainfall around the Santa Anita area, as reported by DRF. Additionally, the start of the Santa Anita racing season was postponed because of the rainy conditions near Arcadia, California. Originally set to begin on December 26th, the winter racing season was delayed until December 28th.

In total, four days of live racing have been canceled during Santa Anita’s early season. The December 26th race transfer was moved to December 29th, and the December 31st race card had a transfer date of December 27th.

This article was initially published by Paulick Report on January 1, 2026, under the News section.

Fan Take: These cancellations highlight the vulnerability of outdoor sports like horse racing to unpredictable weather, yet the rescheduling efforts show the industry’s resilience. For fans and stakeholders, this underscores the importance of flexibility and the hope that racing can continue safely despite natural challenges.
