Sunderland managed to secure a goalless draw against Manchester City, marking an impressive 10-game unbeaten streak at home in the Premier League.

The match at the Stadium of Light was filled with excitement, featuring several threats and opportunities for both sides. An early goal from Bernardo Silva was disallowed for offside, while Brian Brobbie and Erling Haaland both had shots saved in the first half.

Just before halftime, Try Hume had a chance to put Sunderland ahead, and in the second half, both Sabinho and Eliezer Mayenda came close to scoring, but it was substitute Josko Gvardiol who hit the post with 16 minutes left in the match.

As a result of the draw, City now sits four points behind league leaders Arsenal, while Sunderland retains its spot in seventh place.

Sunderland made one change from their previous draw against Leeds, bringing in Mayenda, while Sabinho and Nathan Ake featured in Josep Guardiola’s squad.

In the sixth minute, Haaland flicked a corner from Rayan Cherki into the net for City, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Sunderland held Manchester City to a goalless draw.

After City controlled possession, Sunderland created their first opportunity in the 19th minute when Brobbie seized Nordi Mukiele’s aerial ball, only to be denied by Gianluigi Donnarumma. His follow-up shot was cleared.

The Black Cats continued to apply pressure, but Hume’s shot sailed over the goal and Mayenda’s attempt deflected for a corner.

City nearly broke the deadlock when Phil Foden sent a low pass to an unmarked Haaland in the box, but Robin Roofs made the save, leading to a quick Sunderland counter that saw Mayenda’s cross cleared away.

Before halftime, Sunderland had a great chance when Hume headed a cross from Granit Xhaka just over the bar.

Rodri came on for Nico González at the start of the second half, and City looked dangerous when Cherki crossed for Savinho, whose attempt went over the bar.

Shortly after, Cherki’s angled shot was saved by Roofs, and Haaland’s rebound was stopped by Donnarumma at the other end.

Sunderland kept pushing forward, with Enzo le Fé feeding Mayenda, forcing a save from Donnarumma.

Gvardiol surged into the box and Roofs deflected a Rodri header, but Silva had another opportunity with a shot into the crowded area.

Substitute Jeremy Doku entered the box and fired a powerful shot that hit Mukiele, followed by Silva’s effort being headed off target. City’s near miss in the 74th minute came when Gvardiol’s acrobatic shot hit the post.

Xhaka then found Wilson Isidore, but Donnarumma made a near-post save.

The closing moments were frantic, with Gvardiol’s close-range shot blocked and Sunderland’s counter-attack held off. Roofs comfortably saved Tijani Lijnders’ last-second effort.

The draw between Sunderland and Manchester City showcases the unpredictable nature of the Premier League, emphasizing that no match is a guaranteed win, even for the giants. For soccer fans, this result not only keeps the title race alive but also highlights Sunderland’s resilience, making them a team to watch in upcoming fixtures.
