Four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen has revealed that he stays in regular contact with former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner on a race-by-race basis following Horner’s dismissal. Horner, who has led Red Bull since his F1 debut in 2005 and guided the team to four world championships alongside Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen, was removed from his position in July 2024 amid a decline in the team’s performance and internal tensions after being cleared of misconduct allegations.

Despite Horner’s exit, Verstappen disclosed in an interview with Viaplay that they maintain frequent communication, usually through texts during race weekends and sometimes even during holidays. Verstappen highlighted the difficult transition given the bond they formed and the achievements they shared, especially the pivotal 2021 season when Horner strongly supported him. Though the team struggled, finishing third in the 2025 constructors’ championship behind Mercedes and McLaren, Verstappen praised Horner’s belief in him and emphasized the ongoing encouragement he receives from the former principal.

Fan Take: This ongoing connection between Verstappen and Horner underlines the deep personal relationships behind the high-stakes world of F1, reminding fans that even amidst leadership changes, trust and mentorship remain crucial. For the sport, it signifies how team dynamics off the track can impact performance and morale on it, shaping future rivalries and alliances.
