Everton currently sit just five points behind arch-rivals Liverpool in the Premier League table.

David Moyes’s Toffees remain in the top four this season after comfortably defeating former manager Sean Dyche and defeating Nottingham Forest 2-0 in their last game, with eight league wins from 19 games in total.

James Garner’s goal and assist will rub salt into his former employer’s wounds, but Moyes will also have been delighted with Tierno Barry’s performance at the City Ground, scoring just his second goal for the Toffees against the Dish hosts.

But the Merseyside giants, who have scored just 20 goals all season, may be tempted to make some top-flight signings in January, with their talismanic presence in attack sure to lead Moyes’ side to further victories.

Everton still keen to sign dream striker

With Beto having scored just one goal in the Premier League this season, it’s easy to see why so many attacking names are already being linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium just days into the game.

In fact, there are rumors that Everton have started talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ fugitive striker Jorgen Strand Larsen about a January deal.

However, despite scoring just three goals in all competitions this season, he is unlikely to be seen as a major upgrade worth spending big money on.

However, the signing of Ivan Toney would be a deal that would shock the Premier League, as the former Brentford attacker continues to be linked with a return to England.

Realistically, Toney’s salary at Al Ahly was an eye-watering £433,000 a week, and the associated costs make this deal something of a pipe dream.

However, the i Paper suggested this is a move the Toffees “deeply hope” will get them over the line next month as they search for the focus they lack at the top, having scored a staggering 131 goal contributions over the past five seasons in England and the Saudi Professional League.

Defying all adversity, the 29-year-old’s service allowed Moyes to sign his very own Romelu Lukaku, with the Belgian still revered as Merseyside’s beloved goal machine.

Why Tony could be Moyes’ own Lukaku

Lukaku’s lasting mark on Everton is still being felt today, with Barry saying after scoring the winning goal against Forest that he had tried to model the 32-year-old’s instinctive Toffees game from his prime at Goodison Park.

In fact, most of Lukaku’s touches during most of his stay on Merseyside turned into gold medals, with his astonishing total of 87 goals for Everton far surpassing his tally at Chelsea, Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion.

Former Everton manager Ronald Koeman described him as a “world-class” finisher, and the Toffees often relied on the former No. 10’s magic to get them out of trouble.

Everton are looking for a similarly impactful player under Moyes. This season, mid-table teams have had many scoreless games, with the Merseysiders losing three consecutive Premier League games in December.

Looking at the table above, Tony may be able to help here. The 6-foot-1 marksman had an astounding 72 shots in 141 games during his time at G-Tech Community Stadium and was hailed as a “special” presence in front of goal by former Bees coach Thomas Frank.

Moyes will be hoping that if this bold move is successful, he can forge a similar warm relationship with the seven-time England international. The Glaswegian was responsible for taking a massive 55 strikeouts from Michael Antonio at West Ham United, while also working with memorable attackers like Lukaku in his first spell at Everton under Tim Cahill and Steven Pienaar.

The “remarkable” goalscorer, as Frank has praised him, has never run out of goals in the Middle East, with 43 goals to his name for Al Ahly, and like the well-traveled Belgian, Tony continues to make an impression wherever he goes.

Considering the financial aspects of this contract, Strand-Larsen’s signature is much easier and cheaper to stamp, making it very far-fetched to cross the line.

But if Everton can somehow work out a deal that avoids a hefty salary, signing Tony in January could mean the second coming of Lukaku to Merseyside.
