Liverpool beat Manchester United to make a move for Sheffield Wednesday wonderster Esa Alao.

The highly-rated 17-year-old left-back has already made three appearances for Wednesday’s first team and looks like he could be quickly snapped up by one of the Premier League’s elite.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool and Man United are said to be interested in signing Alao, and it’s clear the Reds are doing everything they can to beat their arch-rivals in what could be an exciting signing.

Alao is still inexperienced and probably won’t break straight into the first team at Liverpool or United, but he is certainly a future talent worth investing in.

Both LFC and MUFC have a proud history of using players from their academy or players who joined from other teams before becoming big names.

Both of these clubs seem to see Alao as an elite prospect whose value could skyrocket over the next few years, and even if he doesn’t become a key player for either team, he would be a smart signing.

It is unclear how much Liverpool offered for the player, but United are said to have offered £450,000 for the player.

This is a very easily affordable price for a big club in the Premier League and it will be interesting to see if Wednesday decides he is worth cashing in amid all the ongoing issues.

According to ESPN, the Owls are bottom of the Championship with seven points after receiving a hefty penalty for a “breach of EFL rules regarding payment obligations”.

That could likely mean clubs are under a lot of pressure to release players, while a promising player like Alao is likely to feel his future lies in more stable territory almost anywhere else.
